John Dixon, is perhaps one of the closest and most trusted friends that Robbie has. He is also one of two people that Robbie trusts to drive beside on the strip in cars that go FAST and very Quick. They first met many years ago when they both worked at different body shops in Anchorage and met every Friday evening for pizza and beer at a local place in Anchorage. Today they enjoy an almost sick love for pulling the wool over other’s eyes with their fake and phony grudge racing. At one race last year, John was going to run out with a box cutter knife immediately before Robbie launched in his dragster, in front of the crowd, and act like he was slicing the tires on Robbie’s car. John drives an amazing Fuel Altered named the “Trophy Hunter” for its owners in Fairbanks, Alaska. He also owns and drives a Fiat Topolino with a blown BBC that is nothing short of scary. A past issue of Nostalgia Drag World magazine carried an article on John for those interested in reading it.
The third person in his life is “Top Jimmy” Lackey who is part owner in a blown funny car that is a seriously fast car. Jim’s family owns and operates the Alaska Raceway Park in Butte, Alaska. This racing theme park operates a certified IHRA drag strip as well as a certified NASCAR oval track. Jim’s specialty is transmissions and he and Robbie rely heavily on each other’s expertise with their respective race cars. It should or could be mentioned here that Jim’s Mother, Karen, treats Robbie like one of her own son’s and get very protective towards him when any other person acts in a negative manner toward “my other boy”.
Before I close this piece I want to mention three very important points about Robbie Huck that deserve to be told. One question that I asked Robbie was “have you lost any good friends through racing and the racing fraternity?”. Without hesitation he said “yes…my Mom, JoAnne because she always supported me in what I wanted or tried to do and be”. “And Gene LaMay who built the chassis for my front engine nostalgia dragster”. “I miss those two people immensely”. Then I said to him “is there anything about you that nobody else knows that you are not ashamed about?” Robbie looked at me and said “well I pray a lot because I know that I can’t do it all by myself”. The other thing took place in 2015. Robbie was inducted into the Alaska Drag Racing Hall of Fame. In my opinion, that says a tremendous amount about Robert Wardlow Huck IV. God speed Robbie, I hope with all my heart that you make it past 220 safely.
