After doing some quick, but official math, Don Wilcox did indeed hold the points lead despite his first round loss to Adam Smith. An incredible three point margin was all that separated the top two after the points were tabulated after Tulsa. Congratulations to both parties and especially to Wilcox and company on their first Central States Superchargers Championship. The racing wasn't over in Tulsa, as a powerhouse final round bout was set up between Singleton and Umlauf.
Saturday night under the lights at Tulsa Raceway Park as Singleton brought his machine to life looking to defend his event win from last year. Umlauf was hoping to score his first CSS win with his new nitro burning combination after an absolute thrash in the pits where Umlauf and team replaced two pistons between the first qualifying round and first round of eliminations. Unfortunately, the car was unable to back up from the burnout and was forced to shutoff, allowing Singleton to solo to low elapsed time of the event with a 3.95 at 179 mph. Congratulations to Singleton and the "High Risk" team on their big win in Tulsa.
Runner Up - John Umlauf
FINAL ROUND RESULTS:
(W) Ken Singleton (.083 rt) 3.95 @ 179 vs. (L) John Umlauf (No Time - Broke)
Winner - Ken Singleton
In five events this season, the CSS series crowned five different event winners. It was an entertaining points battle that came down to the elimination rounds of the final event of the season. Don Wilcox will wear the Championship crown until the first event of the 2017 season where everyone will start out even and the CSS will host its 5th Anniversary season. The CSS series would like to thank Holzman Racecars and The Car Shop Inc. for their support this year. For more information, visit www.cssuperchargers.com.
